FIT TOGETHER NC (Obesity Initiative)

Background
BCBSNC has committed $3 million for a public service advertising campaign, called Fit Together NC, to address the problem of obesity from a community perspective by encouraging individuals to take action to improve not only their own personal choices on nutrition and physical activity, but also to participate in creating local environments that support healthy lifestyles. HWTF has committed $1.5 million toward development of tools to implement these individual and community changes that will be offered on a Web site currently under development. It will include:

• "best practices" guidance for schools, businesses and other community organizations
• a diagnostic risk assessment sponsored by the NC Adademy of Family Physicians and the NC Pediatric Society
• a directory of local resources for weight management and physical activity opportunities all around our state
